Mister Spare writes letters to fruit flies. He rubs flowers out of pavement slabs and he hugs the radiator at home whenever he gets lonely. Mister Spare is a long and skinny man who lives a meagre life that is centred around writing flowers in his notebook, drinking coffee without words in his café, or falling asleep inside his beard, well hidden from the rest of the world.
Mister Spare is also a collection of twenty-six stories with about as many illustrations, bound together in a rather unusual and sparsely shaped book. It is written and illustrated by Martijn in ’t Veld, edited and translated by Nickel van Duijvenboden and made possible with the kind support of the Creative Industries Fund NL. Mister Spare also exists in Dutch, where he goes by the name of Meneer Karig. — Please drop a note at the checkout if you prefer to have the Dutch version. Dank u!
